Three Borders - riders are soon to set off on a 150mile fund raising ride to Yorkshire, as a challenging personal tribute to a much loved friend.
The Borders community was deeply saddened last December, by the death of one its most popular eventers and riding instructors Catriona (Tutti) Arres, following a battle with cancer. Tutti ran Dryden Riding Centre near Ashkirk and through her tireless work inspired countless numbers of young people and adults to ride and to compete successfully at many levels. She was also particularly supportive towards Riding for the Disabled.
Polly Fraser, Cicely and Mark Thorne are aiming to raise money for cancer care through Macmillan and Riding for the Disabled, with support from the BHS, by taking on this challenging ride.
'Tutti's gift in terms of inspiring others, ' says Polly, 'has in turn inspired three of us to undertake this sponsored ride from the Scottish Borders to Goatland in North Yorkshire in June. Although we're undertaking this ride on our own, we're trying to raise as much money as we can through sponsorship and hope very much to make a significant contribution to cancer care once the ride is over.'
