A Borders' day to remember! |
|
I had an unforgettable riding experience last autumn on one of the Bowhill rides. I'd brought my horse down from Edinburgh and parked the trailer where advised just down the road from the Bowhill stables. From there I went straight up into the woods on the hill behind Bowhill house. It's a steady climb up through miles of wooded track with some super canters until you get out onto open hill ground and onto Newark Hill itself. The climb to the top is a real fitness test for horse and rider so be prepared! It's also probably not a good place to go during lambing for obvious reasons but at the right time of year it's a beautiful ride. The views from the top of the hill were among the best I've ever seen and after winding our way home again back down The Duchess's Drive, we returned to Edinburgh much the better for our Borders experience. We're both coming back to the Borders again this year, for a few days this time.
