South of Scotland Countryside Trails are within easy striking distance from central and southern Scotland as well as northern England AND the routes link in with the Pennine Bridleway, Border Country Ride and many others.

History Comes Alive!
This enticing network of multi-use trails has been created for many to enjoy. The South of Scotland has a rich heritage of old drove roads, old Roman roads, old railway lines, former pedlar's paths, forest tracks and many others. An enterprising path regeneration programme was finalised in summer 2005 inviting you to follow in the footsteps of cattle drovers, centurions and the thousands of enthusiastic walkers, riders and cyclists who have already been experiencing the delights of these new trails.

Horses and Riders
Rides of several days' length can be made by the trails. Riders can also take advantage of the new BHS Horses Welcome Scheme which makes finding accommodation for horse and rider easy.

Using the routes
Remember to follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code Respect the privacy, safety and livelihoods of those living or working in the countryside, and the needs of other people enjoying the outdoors Look after the places and routes you visit and enjoy: take only memories: leave only footprints. Accept responsibility for your own actions. Keep dogs under close control at all times, ideally on a short lead, particularly where there are livestock.
