Equestrian Tourism in the Southern Uplands
The Southern Uplands, a working landscape peppered with ancient hill forts, glorious abbeys, border battlefields, castles, reivers' hideaways and a range of landscapes - coastal, forest and hill. This is stunning riding country with picturesque villages and a growing number of specialist accommodation providers for visitors bringing their horses to explore the trails through the rural south of Scotland.
For three years now The Southern Uplands Partnership has been involved in a range of partnership projects to help develop equestrian tourism here. This work has included a large-scale market research project, work to develop of the South of Scotland Countryside Trails and Tweed Trails, a trail riding business seminar and now - the publication of guidance notes for those considering setting up a trail riding enterprise.
